Organizations

  • Women in Migration Network
WIMN promotes women’s human rights at the center of all migration and development policy. Our network recognizes the intersectionality of gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, migration status, disability, and national origin. WIMN convenes organizations and activists to expand rights-centered policies that prioritize the interests of diverse women and families affected by migration around the world.
  • The UN International Organization for Migration (IOM), Gender and Migration
Given the gender-specific nature of migration, the following are central to IOM’s work: advocating for equal rights under the law in employment and mobility; combatting discriminatory migration practices; understanding how gender affects the types of migration undertaken; respondingto how gender influences access to social services, economic growth, capacities, risks and vulnerabilities; ensuring diversity and inclusiveness in consultations and participation in activities; and addressing how migration influences gender roles and relations.
  • Melissa Network (Athens, GR)
Melissa is a network for migrant and refugee women in Greece promoting empowerment, communication and active citizenship

Journals

  • Migration Policy Institute / Special Issue: Women and Migration
Our first Special Issue is dedicated to understanding the complex relationship between migration and gender. As one of our contributors writes, the migration of women “has raised both prospects and pains.” This issue takes a closer look at both sides of the migration coin for women.
